The oldest church in Birbhum district is located in Suri. Christianity began in Birbhum in the second decade of the 19th century. In 1826 the Williamson couple came to preach Christianity after being sent by William Carey and Marshman of Srirampur Mission. Later, in 1876, the Norman Evangelical Lutheran Church, known as the Red Church was built.

Fairs and Festivals: One of the oldest fairs of Birbhum is still being held at Suri, which is popularly known as the Barabagan Mela of Suri. Thanks to the contact of Rabindranath himself, this fair started in 1896 as an agricultural exhibition fair. Also various religious and social festivals are held throughout the year.

What will you see? There is the oldest Ramranjan Library of the district established in 1899 which is now known as Vivekananda Library. Apart from this, there is an ancient Radhadamodar temple. Tilpara Barrage is not far from Suri. And Suri's marmalade and pickles are equally famous.
How to go: It is a 4-hour journey from Kolkata to Suri by direct train or bus. From here you can get buses to all parts of the district.
